Step-by-Step: How to Make the Print
The whole process takes under five minutes. Prep your pet, your space, and follow these steps.
Step 1 — Set the Scene
Choose a calm moment — after a walk or meal when your pet is relaxed works best. Lay the coated paper on a flat, hard surface. Keep the wipe sealed until you're ready to go, and have a spare treat nearby to reward your furry model.
Step 2 — Open the Wipe & Prep the Paw
Tear open the foil sachet and unfold the wipe. Make sure your pet's paw is clean and dry — a quick pat with a towel if needed. Then gently press the wipe against the paw pad, covering the entire pad and toes evenly.
Tip: Wipe in a gentle dabbing motion rather than rubbing, to coat the pad without causing anxiety.
Step 3 — Press the Paw onto the Paper
Hold the paper steady with one hand. Gently lift your pet's paw and press it firmly onto the coated paper. Hold for 2–3 seconds applying even pressure across all pads. Lift straight up — don't drag or slide.
Tip: For cats or wriggly dogs, having a second person hold the pet still makes this step much easier.
Step 4 — Watch the Print Appear
This is the magic moment! The print will begin to develop on the special coated paper within seconds. The image deepens over the next minute or two. No shaking, no waiting — just the satisfying reveal of every tiny toe pad.
Step 5 — Repeat & Choose Your Favourite
Because one wipe gives 4–8 prints, you can take several attempts and choose the clearest one. Each print uses a fresh section of the wipe. Let the prints air dry completely before handling or framing.
Tip: Label the back of each print with the date and your pet's name while the memory is fresh.
Pro Tips for the Best Results
Work with your pet's mood — A sleepy or post-walk pet is your best subject. Avoid doing this right before feeding time or during play.
Trim fur around the pads — Long fur between toe pads can blur the print. A quick trim before the session helps achieve a crisp, defined result.
Dry paws thoroughly — Any moisture on the paw can dilute the wipe's coating. Pat paws completely dry before applying the wipe.
Use two people — One person handles the pet, one handles the paper. This keeps everything steady for a clean impression.
Store unused sheets flat — Keep the coated paper away from direct sunlight and humidity until you're ready to use it.
Wait before framing — Allow 24 hours before framing so the print is fully stable and the colour is at its deepest.
